Amazing Images of Machu Picchu
As one of the most intriguing destinations in the world, the Lost Inca City of Machu Picchu has been visited by sightseers, backpackers, and those seeking the serenity of what is considered sacred land. Travelphant Travel Blog recently put together a guide to the newest great world wonder, accompanied by some amazing photographs that are just too good not to share.
Built in the classical Inca style, Machu Picchu’s mysterious ruins are made up of polished dry-stone walls. Separated into three areas – agricultural, urban, and religious – the structures are arranged so that the function of the buildings matches the form of their lush surroundings. The agricultural terracing and aqueducts take advantage of the natural slopes; the lower areas contain buildings occupied by farmers and teachers, and the most important religious areas are located at the crest of the hill, overlooking the lush Urubamba Valley thousands of feet below. Its primary buildings are the Intihuatana, the Temple of the Sun, and the Room of the Three Windows.
