New images showing the hatchback version of General Motors Co.’s 2012 Chevrolet Aveo sedan hit the web. The first set of images had appeared at the start of the year.
These images, which are part of the patent filing that Chevrolet submitted to the US patent office, display a model that is clearly inspired from the Aveo RS show car. The new Aveo features a revised front fascia and a more aggressive stance due to new headlights and a bigger grille.
These two models are alike in their interiors too. There are rumors that the production version has the same multi-function steering wheel, instrument cluster housing, and position of the HVAC vents and controls. To date, there has been no report on what engine will be offered in the new Aveo.
Meanwhile, the RS version is equipped with a 1.4l I-4 Ecotec turbocharged engine that produces138hp. The unit is partnered to a six-speed manual transmission. The existing model is available in two types of engines: a 1.2l DOHC and a 1.4l. In late 2009, the company decided to build the new Aveo in Orion Township, Michigan.
The plant will go through a retooling process this year, with the overall capacity expected to hit 160,000 units annually. The Aveo is also produced in South Korea in either 3- or 5-door configuration.
