Sarah Palin: Resigning as governor of Alaska (with video of resignation speech). Sandra Palin officially announced on Friday (July 3) that she will be resigning as governor of Alaska.

The 45-year-old, who was known as ‘Sarah Barracuda’ in high school, will serve as governor until July 26 before she hands the position over to Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell.

“We know we can affect positive change outside government at this moment in time on another scale and actually make a difference,” said Sarah in a news conference in her hometown of Wasilla, Alaska. “I know when it’s time to pass the ball for victory.”
